“Let’s celebrate our progress”
I have been thinking about some of the “excellent progress” we have achieved as an organisation in he passed 12 months. So I compiled this summary of a few activities. It’s amazing when you occasionally read negative doomsayers comments about the world in general. My experience is that most of those folks live pretty sad lives and general never achieve anything. So as we move into some economic tough times we need to stay positive and celebrate our success to keep our tanks full.
Financial result
Our organisation has never been more stable with a possible building fund saved to upgrade our organisations “ageing house” head quarters.
On Line Licencing
This milestone project is due to go live within 3 months and will revolutionise relicensing.
Permits will follow.
Road Racing, Motocross, ATV, Enduro, Cross Country, Junior Motocross, Trials and Speedway and Supercross
These disciplines have all had very successful Championships in the past twelve months.
Road Racing and MX enjoyed television coverage as well.
Super cross
Competitors at SX increased dramatically this year and I put this down to safer tracks and the training arranged by MNZ.
World Championship Junior round secured
MNZ in conjunction with the Taupo Motorcycle club has secured a round of the series for August 2009. This is a fantastic result and will be an important goal for many of our junior ranks.
Super Bikes
MNZ meet with the owners of the World Superbike series and in principle have agreement to hold a round of the series. This is pending suitable funding being arranged but is a milestone in making it a reality.
Off Road Grass roots training
4 high profile training days were held by our training partner Darryll King from DKMX. These were very well received and subsidised by MNZ for our members.
Stewards Training
This long awaited training is underway and to date has been well received. We aim to complete this nation wide training later this year.
Club Development
Club Development training manuals have been completed and are in our library. These useful manuals have been completed after much hard work from our Operations Manager Vicky and it will be our focus to encourage clubs to use them.
Noise Emission
We have secured partial funding so that we can provide to every MNZ affiliated club the tools and training to manage this very serous issue of excessively noisy machines. This is a major step forward as we prove to local and central government that we are responsible. This will surely be a positive step to secure tracks for future generations.
New Commissioners
We have a full team on board and I would have to say I am really pleased with the team that we currently have. I look forward to many successes from them in the future.
MNZ Web
We are uploading fresh stories daily now with the aid of a professional journalist (Andy McGechan) and we have seen the number of visitors steadily increase in the past 12 months to record levels. We have also added our Value Added pack and a user friendly search engine for ease of use.
Media
You would have noticed the massive increase in media exposure in the past 12 months. Motorcycle sports news appears hundreds of times a month nation wide in the press. This has been no accident as we have used the services of Andy McGechan to generate articles and raise the profile of all disciplines.
MNZ Office
We have worked hard to streamline the office and the work carried out there. We have review a lot of activities that we were doing that were not adding value to the membership and removed them. The office is flowing better than it was a year ago.
World Champions
We have been directly involved in enabling Katherine Prumm and Tony Cooksley in achieving World Championships. We helped seek sponsorship and fund them in their efforts to get there. This has given a lift to women in motorcycling which was one of our key objectives and our ever increasing vet membership.
New Zealand Uniform
Last year we introduced the New Zealand Off Road top. This has created more pride in riding for New Zealand and is a highly sort after top. It sets a level of professionalism particularly when the Oceania meetings are on. Before we had this top Australians made us look like very poor cousins in our” what ever gear”.
Code of Conduct
In the passed year we have introduce a much needed Code of Conduct. This is standard practise in many other organisations and will ensure we have the tools to bring into line members that don’t know how to conduct themselves in a proper manner.
New Constitution
Our members were asked to work with a panel to create an improved Constitution. This was completed and we will work with it and tune in the coming years.
Value Added Pack
We are continuing to grow this offer. This is an added value at no cost to our members and I am confident it will grow in the coming years.
Volunteer recognition
We have started a volunteer programme were we send out a $100 voucher so that the member can take there family out for dinner or a drink. They often spend very high amounts of time away from their loved ones working for motorcycling New Zealand and our affiliated Clubs.
So all in all a productive year. We need to celebrate our achievements and kick the old lets attack the tall poppies out the door.
Stay safe till next time.
