I don’t know about you but don’t the months just fly by. One of the things we have been working hard on over the past couple of months has been a Code of Conduct for members and officials. Coming from a business back ground where protocols and code of conducts are common place, I have been blown away at some of the abuse and threats that some of our biking family feel they have the right to do. Well it’s going to change; our average enthusiastic member doesn’t want a bar of this nonsense. I certainly know that our valued volunteers and officials don’t give up their time to be abused or in some cases physically threatened. This code will spell out how we expect our members to treat each other. Most of you are well meaning excellent folks so don’t be offended while I expand to those that need to hear this. In the future it will not be acceptable to send rude abusive email to officials or other members. It certainly won’t be OK to physically touch an official or other competitor in an unwanted manner. Recently we suspended a member for 12 months for kicking another rider in the head. Once it’s completed we will post this document on our Website and it will be sent to all members with their current licence. It’s important we treat each other how we want to be treated. I don’t like airing dirty laundry but there will be consequences for those that conduct themselves poorly.
On a positive note the new classes for the New Zealand MX Championship this year will hopefully grow our sport as it keeps the cost and noise down. We are predicting that the number of junior riders will stay in the sport longer as they can keep the bikes they could be riding and step up to senior racing at a much lower cost. I have had mixed calls about the new format some folks absolutely love it and others liked the old way. It’s definitely going ahead this year and we will monitor it closely. If you are in favour or not let your club delegate know for late in the year when we are looking for rule changes. We certainly had a 100% direction from the clubs at the AGM this year and I really have a positive feel that it will grow our sport and put more money in our rider’s pockets.
