Motocross is the new name given to the world of scrambles off road racing and is the most dominant of our dirt racing. This comprises medium to undulating conditions and a mix of natural terrain with man made obstacles commonly known as jumps.
Motocross was born in the '60s with the advent of purpose built machines designed with knobbly tyres; high ground clearance; off-the-wheel mudguards and extended suspension. There are now three recognised classes in the world with the original open, then the 250cc and the smaller 125cc class added in 1975.
Motocross attracts a wide spectrum of senior competitors from 15 years of age (just out of juniors) through to veterans, which start at 35 years. We also have Women's classes to cater for this fast growing sector of our sport.
Supercross is an American adaptation to motocross using a much smaller track in a tight arena environment (about the size of a football field), with a multitude of obstacles. The obstacles include jumps and corners blended together to make a combination of challenges with such radical definitions as tabletop; stutters; doubles; trebles; launch pads; down ramps and berms to name a few.
Supercross is a very intensive; precise; physically demanding; accurate sport and requires great balance and body co-ordination.
This high drama section of our sport is very 'crowd thirsty' and enjoys great public support as spectators can sit and watch the bash and crash of Supercross right in front of them.
