DECEMBER 8, 2009: Motorcycling New Zealand (MNZ) is pleased to announce that a pilot coaching/training program has been established in the Nelson/Marlborough region.
This was a concept initiated by representatives of the Marlborough and Nelson Motorcycle Clubs who have been working collaboratively for over two years to bring it to fruition.
With the replacement of the Hillary Commission by SPARC some years ago and the changes to the coaching accreditation structures and responsibilities, motorcycling has been allowed to fall behind most other sports in this area.
But the new Board of MNZ recognises that their members deserve and need access to affordable training /coaching.
The new Board also recognises that there are a large number of ‘coaches’ operating without any formal qualifications and without any standards and guidelines.
The program is designed to improve the skills, safety and enjoyment of all riders in a cost effective manner by accredited coaches.
The program is being supported by MNZ, Tasman Regional Sports Trust, SPARC, and ACC with the aim of providing a template for clubs in other Sports Trust regions to use.
Coaching Coaches; There will be 4 levels of Coach Accreditation.
Sport Tasman will teach generic modules with particular emphasis on motorcycling.
Skill specific components are the responsibility of MNZ and assessment will be carried out by appointed assessors.
New participants in the program may already have some qualifications, these will be assessed and credits awarded where the required level has been met.
